At the beginning of the last century, with the growth of trade unionism in Britain the movement wanted a voice in parliament in order to fight for a better life and better conditions for working people. The result was the birth of the Labour Party.
The relationship between the unions and the party, like any close family has had its ups and downs and fall outs but it is still a Labour Government that continues to deliver on the national minimum wage, anti-gang master legislation, guaranteed paid holidays etc.
As trade unionists we can influence both the local party and the national scene. In the North East Lincs Council area there are some 20,000 trade unionists. If only a small fraction of these came forward and joined the Labour Party they could make a difference!
As a member of a trade union you will be part of a branch that can affiliate to the local party and send delegates to the regular meetings.
Working together the Trade Unions & the Labour Party can improve the lives of working people & their families
